Sermon - "Dad, Look at Me." July 24, 2016

Sermon - "Dad, Look at Me." July 24, 2016

This sermon included an interpolation of the Lord's prayer with other scripture passages. The idea is that the Lord's prayer is first and foremost about the Lord himself: Jesus' coming, dying, rising, and return. Here is a summary of that piece of the sermon:

Our Father, Who art in heaven

“So loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son.”

Hallowed be Thy Name

“You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Thy Kingdom come

“Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, ‘the time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe in the good news.’”

Thy will be done

“And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.”

On earth as it is in heaven

“For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he himself is doing.”

Give us this day our daily bread

"And they all ate and were satisfied…the crowd of 5,000 Jews with 12 baskets of leftovers for 12 tribes and another crowd of 4,000 Gentiles, with 7 baskets of leftovers representing 7 nations surrounding Israel.”

And in their last supper, “as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘take and eat, this is my body.’”

And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us

“On the evening of the [Resurrection], Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you...Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.' Having said this he breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven. If you withhold forgivenessfrom any, it is withheld.’”

Lead us not into temptation

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey all I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

But deliver us from evil

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

For thine is Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.” And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.”
