God Growing Bigger
December 17- Luke 1:46-56
v.46-47 “And Mary said,
‘My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior’”
Some people are difficult to shop for at Christmastime. What do you get the person who seemingly has everything they could want or need? Maybe this is why we invented gift cards.
And what could we possibly give to God? Isn't God the very definition of Someone who doesn't need our gifts? And yet, here is Mary, magnifying the Lord. Her soul is "mega-making" the Lord and her spirit rejoices in God.
Ezra occasionally sings a popular Rich Mullins song he learned in preschool: "Our God is an Awesome God, He reigns from heaven above with wisdom, power, and love. Our God is an Awesome God!"
I'm not interested in the logic of that claim, just the experience. When young Mother Mary, or Ezra, or your own child magnifies God in their soul...somehow the God of the Universe grows larger.
“Where are you, Lord?”
“I AM as small as a child’s voice and more magnified than you could imagine.”
May our own souls worship and praise the Lord in childlike faith. Let us see just how magnified God becomes in our neighborhood and world.
Great God, you made yourself small in the Christ child. Stir our hearts to magnify you in our lives, that the world might know your greatness! Amen.
