"Where are You? I AM Here" An Advent Devotional
This month I will be posting from a devotional booklet I wrote for my congregation for this Advent season. I write in hopes of our prayerful reflection on the unsurpassed gift of God’s grace in Jesus. Each entry incorporates the theme, “Where are you? I AM here.”
God asked a hidden Adam and Eve, “Where are you?” Ever since our ancestors hid themselves from God, people have been running and hiding and returning the question. “Where are you, God?” There are wonderful moments of repentance, reunion and renewed relationship to be found, but a desperate disorientation persists. The human heart cannot and will not locate its trust in the One True God. Not for long.
Christmas is God’s ultimate response to human dislocation. “Where are you?” “I AM here: in the manger, among the poor and the powerful, on the cross, on the other side of the grave, in the kingdom of heaven, and I am coming again to make all things new.”
God bless you this Advent and Christmas season. While each entry begins with a verse or two in focus, I encourage you to take the time to read the entire Bible passage referenced. You may likely be struck by a different verse than me.
Peace on Earth,
